Frequently asked questions
What is MiroTalk SFU?
MiroTalk SFU is an open-source WebRTC video conferencing platform built on the mediasoup SFU. You can try it in the browser or install it on your own infrastructure.
Is MiroTalk SFU free?
The source code is free under the AGPLv3 license. Regular and Extended commercial licenses with a one-time fee are available for closed-source, rebranded or commercial use. Running your own server has its own hosting and maintenance costs.
Do I need to sign up or install anything to join a meeting?
On the public demo you just pick a room name and join from your browser, with no download, plug-in or login. Self-hosted instances can add authentication, room passwords, lobby and host protection.
Can I self-host MiroTalk SFU?
Yes. You can deploy it with Docker or Node.js on your own server, following the self-hosting guide.
Are MiroTalk SFU calls end-to-end encrypted?
No. Media is encrypted in transit with DTLS-SRTP between each participant and the SFU server, which sits in the media path and routes the streams. Self-hosting gives you control over that server, but privacy and compliance still depend on how you configure and operate it.
How can I embed MiroTalk SFU in my own app?
Use the embeddable iframe or widget, or create rooms from your backend with the REST API. Keep API secrets on the server and never expose them in the browser.
